Gondola city

Gondolas in Venice at night

Venice is like an open-air museum. But is it a place for dreamers, a romantic city of canals, or a tawdry sewer?

Its real charm lies in its quiet maze of cobbled streets, bridges, hidden piazzas and tucked away churches, with the one humanising detail of the one humanizing detail...the laundry hanging above the canals. Venetians go about their business and pointedly ignore yet another tourist staring uselessly at their map. Forget the map. Throw it away, because turning the next corner is never a disappointment and, almost without fail, will cause the camera to come out and go into action.
